Bio Gary Greenberg started playing congas in 1982 in Humboldt, CA. He began taking classes with local percussion teacher, David Penalosa. Over the course of the last twenty-five years, he has had the privilege of studying with many master drummers such as Regenio Jimenez, Angel Balanos and Mario Jaurigui. He had his hands washed by Regino and Bolanos in 1995. Gary continues to play fundamento (consecrated drums) in ceremonies in Los Angeles. Gary has performed in folkloric groups in San Diego, Ca, where he also accompanied Afro-Cuban dance teacher, Juan Carlos Blanco, in his classes. He has been an instructor at the Humboldt State Explorations in Afro-Cuban Dance and Drum workshops. He currently resides in North San Juan, CA where he teaches percussion classes and plays in local bands. Gary is available for classes and perfomance.
